Role Playing Game > Super Nintendo > Drakkhen > My FAQ

Last Updated : June 28th, 2005

Like a lot of stuff on my site, this FAQ is not complete. There is a lot (and sometimes complete) of detailed listings for various things, like monsters, items, etc. But the walkthrough part is very limited, but it is also very very complex, and I have even included ASCII drawings. It was originally going to by posted at... you guessed it, GameFAQsOffsite Link. But I decided to convert some of the listings into HTML tables and such, and I plan on making images in the future.

Four elements form the universe.
Two poles govern these elements.
These eight principles proceed from all.
All is as the phoenix.

Hello, and welcome to my Drakkhen guide for the Super Nintendo (SNES). Drakkhen was one of the first
games for the SNES, and actually the first role playing game (RPG) to come out for the system. It is a
very unique RPG, which was ported from the PC game, with the same title. To see some of the differences,
look under the Misc. section under PC-SNES Differences (PSD). Drakkhen was the first RPG to have a first
person perspective using a 3D landscape.

========================================================================================================
A. Storyline (STO)
========================================================================================================

This is the storyline it gives you at the beginning of the game.

"When the dragons were destroyed, a new world was born. But, the humans may be destroyed. The humans
failed to heed the gods' advice and wiped out the dragons. So the gods made a new world. One for the
Drakkhen; half human, half dragon. The new Drakkhen island world was divided into four parts. They were
earth, fire, air, and water. Each area is ruled by two Drakkhens. The human world is in danger of being
destroyed by the Drakkhen. But the gods have granted the humans a final chance for survival. They will
be spared if they can collect the eight tears on Drakkhen island. Start your quest by inquiring at prince
Hordkhen's castle. His castle lies before you. Go fourth!! May luck be with you!!"

	3. Starting Out (STA)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you turn the game on you will see a quote, then get to select one of the following. The -New- tag
will not appear if you have already saved on one of the files.

File 1 -NEW-
File 2 -NEW-

You can choose to select start or create.

========================================================================================================
A. Start Characters (STR)
========================================================================================================

Start will give you the default team, with preset stats and names. The team given will be that of the
following:

========================================================================================================
A. Create Characters (CRE)
========================================================================================================

If you choose to actually have some creativeness, and create a team, you will come to a screen where you
get to choose man, and women. There is no difference between the two making one better than the other/
However they will look different. Next you basically choose your order of your characters, you must have
1 fighter, 1 scout, 1 magician, and 1 priest, so it doesn't really matter which you pick. Next you will
choose the name. Once you have the name press end to go to the attributes placement screen. Here you
will give your character the points he needs. Always use the largest value you have (down at the bottom)
to give in the character's most important attribute. Follow this guide:

Important to least important

Fighter/Amazon
--------------

Power
Agility
Physique
Intelligence
Knowledge

Scout
-----

Agility
Power
Knowledge
Physique
Intelligence

Priest/Priestess
----------------

Intelligence
Knowledge
Power
Agility
Physique

Magician
--------

Knowledge
Intelligence
Agility
Physique
Power

Little amount of people know that you can actually "re-roll" your bottom values, along with your
starting HP, Jade, and Fortune using the B button on your controller. You can only do this a maximum of
3 times. Once your done, the journey will begin (after the story and control instructions).

	4. Appendices (APP)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This section is dedicated to giving tables, lists and other diagrams to give you the most in-depth look
at certain aspects of the game.

========================================================================================================
A. Monsters (MON)
========================================================================================================

The following is a guide on how to read the monster table below in this section.

Areas
-----

If you don't understand the areas, please view the Map (MAP) section in the walkthrough. It will explain
everything except the (All) and (Star). The (All) tag simply means that it is available to fight in all
areas. The (Star) tag is specific to the star constellations that you will encounter during the night.

Experience
----------

After hours of thorough testing it seems every monster has a kill experience value. This value is awarded
to the character that finally kills the monster, this value never changes, besides through different
monsters. There is also a hit experience value, that is awarded to each successful hit onto the monster.
If the monster is killed in one hit, then only the kill experience is awarded. The hit experience value
is based on a picking a random set of values that have been declared for each monster, ex: Brown Slime:
2,6,8. There is no other logical answer to the hit experience value, since it isn't random between two
numbers, as the slime values indicate, and it's normally always multiples of 2. I've tried my formulas
to try to explain it, yet all have failed, since errors keep coming up as a fight different monsters,
some hit experience values even go over the kill experience value!

Speed
-----

This is the speed that the monster walks on the screen, there is only two speeds, therefore Slow or
Fast is used. Some monsters do not move, they are given the None tag.

Air
---

Some monsters are in the air, and must be fought with either magic or a bow & arrow. However if you are
lucky you may get a few hits off of the flying monster if you are standing under where the monster is
the lowest to the ground, and successfully hit when you attack. That method proves to take a long time.

Jade
----

This is the amount of jade that the monster will drop when defeated. These values are not complete,
they still might go up or down based on if I, or others can find other values.

Items
-----

These are the items that the monster might drop, some may be very rare, and some might drop multiple
items at once. To see the multiple item monster list go to the very bottom of this section.

The island of Drakkhen is divided into 4 islands, and 8 areas. The islands, which are separated by the
horizontal lines in between have different themes. The 1st island is ice themed, the 2nd island is
swamp themed, the 3rd island is temperate themed, the 4th island is desert themed. Each island has two
areas, the only difference between these two sides are the different monsters that you encounter.

========================================================================================================
B. Introduction (INR)
========================================================================================================

This section will teach you how to read the maps and guides which will be presented with each of the
castles. Here is a mini guide for what each represents on a castle map.

x - Door
^ - Exit to outside
1 - Number of the room (1 is always the beginning room) (1 to 99)
A - Letter of door (goes from one point to another on the map) (A to Z)

In the guide, some terms you should be familiar with are:

Retrace - Move back the way to you came to the room it tells you to.

Item pickups - These are the pickups (not from monsters) that you might get from the castle, depending
on if you used the suggested or advanced walkthrough. It will also give the amount of the item you
will find (example x2), which means two, and also gives you the room which they are in.

Monsters - These are the monsters that you might encounter, depending on if you used the suggested or
advanced walkthrough. This list does not include the monster that you meet, and not fight. In the list,
it will list the rooms that you will encounter the monster.

-

There is two separate guides to every castle. The suggested walkthrough, and the advanced walkthrough.
The suggest walkthrough gives you only instructions to complete the bare minimum of the task you need to
do to go on to the next castle. The advanced walkthrough goes through all rooms (even unnecessary ones).
If it is your first time playing, you should go with the advanced since this will give the most items and
experience.

I do not include steps in for leveling, you must do this on your own. There is a guideline of which
levels you should be on for each castle, follow these and you should do okay.
