Originally Shadow Warrior began development in 1994 and was scheduled for release in 1996. But 3D Realms didn't want to release two games using the same technology in the same year, so they worked on it another year, and the result is what you get. The following is some screenshots taken very early on in the game's development. To show the actual age of these: 3D Realms didn't even exist yet.

As you can see it has come a long way, but you can also see textures still in use in the final version of the game which is interesting. Both of these pictures were taken from Hocus Pocus (PC) Slide Show.
